Day Two is a day of the desert!
Beersheba was our first stop—Abraham’s hometown and a place of continued importance to Israel to this very day. We learned about tamarisk trees, ancient wells, and 4 room houses!
After this we went into the Wilderness of Zin and experienced a small taste of What it’s like to wander in the desert (hot smelly and scary without necessary provisions). We also learned a name of God and it’s connection with Numbers 20!
Following a picnic lunch under a fine and fig tree we visited the Nabatean/Roman fortress of Avdat where we saw one of two tombs with both a menorah and cross represented on it! It was an excellent chance to discuss the Jewish roots of our Christian faith. We finished our time in the courtyard of the Roman fort reflecting on our Lord’s crucifixion. The site is the same layout as Pilates courtyard would have been.
We finished our day floating in the Dead Sea (Or salt sea as the Hebrews call it!) where we enjoyed an experience that can be had no where else in the whole world!
Time to rest up and get ready for a big day tomorrow!
Bless God!
